“I don’t know what to do next.”
“I don’t know how to get started.”
These are common complaints I hear from small business owners and entrepreneurs.
In the coming weeks we are going to tackle these questions, one by one, some will be case studies and others will be action-oriented.
The idea here is that it can be very difficult to understand what our business needs when we are in the thick of it. We can sometimes miss the obvious because we are so focused on the tiny details. We might be looking too far ahead to see the small action items in front of us.
It happens to everyone, including me. Sometimes we need another set of eyes and ears on our situation.
The first thing to remember is that it’s going to happen. You cannot prepare for every obstacle. Knowing that at some point you’ll hit a speed bump is the best way to avoid the overwhelm that comes with it.
The second thing to remember is, ask for help. It is a wise person who knows when to just ask. Put it out there. You’ll be surprised at how many people will offer to help. Most people love being needed and most people want to share what they know. Sure there are folks who attach a price tag to every encounter, but not all of them. There are lots of people willing answer questions, and offer expertise and ideas.
The third thing to remember is this… don’t sweat the small stuff. Focus on what is truly important and keep your eye on the ball. There are so many things that don’t need doing. Figure out what does need doing and focus on that. Some stuff might never get done! It’s okay. Not everything needs to be done.
